Case Study: Greater Cleveland Funders Collaborative

The Greater Cleveland Funders Collaborative, a partnership of 50+ nonprofits, foundations, and government agencies, sought to better understand and address racial disparities in the allocation of its resources. As a result of utilizing Sector Insights, the Collaborative was able to:

  • Create and meet benchmarks for more equitable resource allocation after learning that even though 40% of nonprofits in the region were BIPOC-led, 90% of funding was allocated to White-led organizations.

  • Implement regional initiatives supporting fair compensation practices in the sector after uncovering that Black-led nonprofits paid their staff 14% more than average, despite having 58% less annual revenue.

  • Collaborate to align programming, attract national funding, and improve long-term sustainability for youth development and human services nonprofits in the region.

  • Secure over $7M in state funding for capital improvements in the human services sector.
